Genius - 24 Hr. Theatre Festival Part III

One of the things that it takes to create within such pressure and limitations is faith. And creative faith can take a number of forms:
  • The faith that SOMETHING will happen.
  • The faith that mistakes are all right.
  • The faith that others will help you.
  • The faith that somehow you will be able to offer help back.
While reflecting on our process, I was reminded of Elizabeth Gilbert's TED talk on Genius. Gilbert is the author of "Eat, Pray, Love", a wildly successful memoir, and she speaks about approaching the creative process after having such unexpected and overwhelming success with the book. Gilbert shares the Greek idea of "Genius" as something that lives outside the individual - a visitation, if you will, from a Muse, and she discusses how freeing this relationship to "genius" can be.

She says it so eloquently that there is little value in paraphrasing. If you have any interest in creating anything, do yourself a favor and view her talk here:
